What does the Conservation Beat mean to you?

As you may have read in the latest issue of KUNM’s newsletter, Zounds, the Conservation Beat is in transition. Megan Kamerick, Carrie Jung, and I have a bunch of stories in the works. After all, there is no shortage of environmental news in New Mexico.

But we’re curious: What does the Conservation Beat mean to you? What type of environmental stories do KUNM listeners most want to hear on the radio and read about on the web?

  1. Hard to pick just one! I’m most interested in the kinds of small-scale local stories that we wont see covered elsewhere, which I’d say usually means public lands, water, fire and wildlife.

  2. I recall KUNM’s Thursday Call-in show on Water during which one of the comissioners (can’t recall which one) assured me and other listeners the Kirtland Plume was nothing to worry about. Within two months news came out the plume had been repeatedly underestimated. I keep hoping you’ll invite that individual back and ask for his perspective now…
